ALEXANDER REID
I am an inquisitive Mechanical Engineer who has recently graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. I have been involved in several on-campus organizations, including serving as the President of MSOE Robotics, as well as the founder of the MSOE Lifting Club. I pride myself on giving back to my community, mentoring my local FIRST Robotics Team. Take a look around my website to see the many great projects and causes I’ve been (and continue to be) involved in! It is my ambition to develop solutions that change peoples’ lives for the better, and apply my knowledge of mechatronics, systems, and engineering mechanics to that end.

Work Experience

  • Customer Success Engineer→ Ghost Robotics (Current)

Using Solidworks, develop suite of payloads and integrated technology for Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicle. Provide remote and onsite support using engineering first principles to integrate, troubleshoot, and install robotic solutions and payloads. Project manage, document and effectively communicate customer functional requirements and improvements. Provide quick-turnaround R&D to support customer and internal integrations.

  • New Product Development Intern → Eaton, Summer 2021

Develop testing procedures for redesigned transformer equipment. Conceptualize and design junction bracket, perform FEA to ensure bracket can withstand loading scenarios

  • New Product Development Intern → Milwaukee Tool, Summer 2020

Design, assemble, test, and deliver a state-of-the-art nailing device for scaffolding and concrete structures. Troubleshoot prototype nailing products before market launch and diagnose problems.

  • Manufacturing Engineering Intern → Rexnord Industries, Summer 2019

Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mission-critical machinery.

  • High School Rotational Engineering Intern → Rockwell Automation, Summer 2018

Support design and testing of new products in hardware division by assembling and modifying existing components. Generation of future prototyping project ideas.

PROJECTS

  • UNDERWATER

This is where it all started: Underwater ROVs. Since my Freshman year of High School, I have been developing robots to perform tasks under the surface of large bodies of water. My home, only a few short blocks from the shores of Lake Michigan, became my laboratory, where I would assemble robots like the one shown above for my High School robotics team. Whether the robot is developed for a yearly competition or for a customer, I take pride in my work.

  • ON THE GROUND

From space-themed robots to FIRST Robotics, I’ve been developing robots for land-based operations for the past 8 years. Shown is one of the more recent devices I have contributed to: The 2020 Milwaukee School of Engineering’s submission for the NASA Robotic Mining Competition. I have contributed both design and manufacturing work for robots in this competition for the past four years of my Undergraduate experience, alongside project management responsibilities.

  • FOR THE COMMUNITY

Robots aren’t just about competitions. It has been my mission to use robotics as a method of delivery for positive change in my communities. For instance, one of my proudest accomplishments is designing and building a robot for a child with a developmental disorder. This robot was designed to carry her medical supplies, and take the load off of the child’s caregivers. The robot is still being used to this day!
